About The Hangar

The Hangar Honors Southeast Alaska Aviation History

The original hangar near this location was lost to a fire from a welding torch spark in 1939. Rebuilt in 1940, our current location inside Historic Merchants Wharf served as an aircraft hangar for many of the float plane operators that eventually merged to become Alaska Airlines.

Everyday the planes would fly in and out of downtown Juneau using the hangar for washing, fueling, and repairs. Pilings from the original float plane elevator can be viewed from the restaurant.

Thank you for helping us keep the historic tradition alive as we celebrate our 21st Anniversary Year as the Hangar on the Wharf!
